Qatar celebrated the breakthrough of an EPBM which had excavated a 5km-long sewer tunnel in Doha on January of 2018, with average boring rate of 13.7m per day. The breakthrough represents the completion of the Western branch, one of the three main branches forming the Main Trunk Sewer of the Doha South Sewage infrastructure project. The project also includes the construction of 7 lateral interceptor sewers with a total length of 24km, which will convey flows from areas in the center of Doha to the main tunnel. This is in addition to the construction of 11 access shafts at a depth ranging from 20m to 40m.
