    10 January, 2023 / 0 Comments Starting Lecture Series in BTS 2023

The 19th of January 2023, is the determined date for commencing the British Tunnelling Society (BTS) 2023 evening lectures with a presentation on HS2.

Presenting some updates on two tunneling projects across HS2 Area North – the Long Itchington Wood Tunnel and the Bromford Tunnel will be up to Balfour Beatty Vinci (BBV) sublot project director Guillaume Lefrere and sublot deputy project director Jules Arlaud.

While tunneling at both sites will be in a significant phase in the current year, the presentation is going to provide technical updates including the challenges faced by the tunneling teams, innovative approaches used on-site, and some key learnings.

In order to advance its second 1.6 km tunnel beneath Long Itchington Wood in Warwickshire, BBV commissioned TBM Dorothy in the previous November. December 2021 was the date of this TBM’s initial launch and it completed the first tunnel drive on HS2 in July. The second bore is due to be completed this summer.

Being located between Water Orton and Washwood Heath near Birmingham, the Bromford Tunnel is a 5.6 km twin-bore tunnel.

The Institution of Civil Engineers, 1 Great George Street, London SW1P 3AA will host this meeting in person at 18:00. Also, it is slated to be streamed live here.
