OUR MISSION IS BEING WITH YOU TILL BREAK THROUGH
    31 August, 2022 / 0 Comments London Power Tunnels 2 Project’s Second Landmark Achieved

Two milestones have been achieved for National Grid team members and the Hochtief Murphy Joint Venture (HMJV) for the London Power Tunnels 2 (LPT2) project during two months.

Starting from Brixton, the drive of Lovat TBM Caroline to Wimbledon was completed on 23/07/2022, while her daily performance was 61.1m in a 16hr along her 5.7km leg and currently there is 18.5km complete with remained length of 14km.

First excavation of four TBMs at Eltham were celebrated on 21 June 2022.

Named after Christine Townley, the former Executive Director of the Construction Youth Trust known for her championing of diversity and STEM careers, Herrenknecht's ChristineTBM with 140-ton weight commenced its journey at the LPT site in Hurst in July 2021. Stretching from Hurst to Eltham underneath London, its whole drive was 6.7km reaching depths of up to 50m underground in the process.

Moreover, Edith and Grace that are National Grid’s two other TBMs pursue their tunneling process deep underground across sites in South London.

In order to rewire London and prepare it for future electricity demands as the city continues to grow, the completion of these tunneling processes represents a key moment for the GBP1 billion project. To ensure the access of Eltham and London residents to more widely safe and reliable electricity supplies, London Power Tunnels is a crucial infrastructure project and it is currently under budget and on time.
