Construction of the new Hell tunnel with 3.9-km-length for the E6 Ranheim-Værnes project, was completed by Nye Veier and Acciona earlier this month. The location of commencing tunnel's excavation using the drill&blast method in April 2021 was the Hommelvik side, while in June 2021 it started from the Hell side. Beginning the digging process from Hommelvik in the south, they completed 392m of blasting in that site and 468m from the Hell side while extracting 360,000 m3 of rock.
Fitting out and completing the tunnel with surface water systems, electrical installations, road construction, and safety equipment, currently work is going to continue in the Hell tunnel. The intended work includes blasting of side tunnels and ditches, but also less noisy work such as the establishment of a road and fittings inside the tunnel, whereas the next step will involve safety checks and tests before motorists can drive through the new tunnel, which is due to take place in 2024.
March 2022 was the date of reaching a breakthrough in the 1.6-km-long Være tunnel, which is also part of the E6 Ranheim-Værnes project. Additionally, the Stavsjøfjell tunnel as the third tunnel of this project is slated to achieve significant success shortly.
