The first TBM metro project was launched to work on the Grand Paris Express in Champigny-sur-Marne. The 10 m diameter TBM had been lowered 20 m below ground. It will excavate a 2.2 km section of the 33km-long line 15 south, which will connect Pont-de-Sèvres to Noisy-Champs by 2024. Eventually 10 TBMs will work simultaneously on excavating line 15 at depths between 15 nm and 55 m below ground. Christian Favier, president of the departmental council of Val-de-Marne, said during the TBM launch ceremony: “The Minister of Transport has confirmed that the entire network will be released although the timetable may be lengthened. With about 170 km of new underground infrastructure in total, the 205 km Grand Paris Express will expand the city's metro system to one of the largest in the world.
